How to Make A Fresh Start for The New Year

We’re officially in a new year (even more significant; a brand-new decade). 
The bubbly has popped. 
The resolutions and “new year, new me” mantras are out there.  

And now — a week or so into the new year — how do you feel about all that sparkle?   
Has it left the building? Or are you still riding high on “new” everything? 

Whether you’re not feeling the “new” anymore, or you feel like you’re just getting started – we have some ideas to help you make a fresh start for the new year. 



The "Fresh Start Effect"  

Have you heard of the “fresh start effect”? 


The landmark doesn’t have to be New Year’s; it can be your birthday, a new month, a new quarter, heck, even a Monday works, too. 

  
The “fresh start effect” uses these landmarks to show a distinction of the past (potentially not where you wanted to be in, say, your health) and where you want to be going forward with your goals.    

Literally, the meaning of “new year, new me”.

How To Make A Fresh Start for The New Year 

If this “fresh start effect” speaks to you, now is a perfect time to wipe the previous years’ slate clean and start this one brand new. 

Here are 3 tips to get your fresh start motor running! 

  

TAKE INVENTORY OF WHAT IS WORKING 

Before we get into goals, let’s first talk about what IS working in your life. 

This area is often overlooked because we’re so focused on what ISN’T working and what to do about it.   

Take into account the areas in your life that make you proud. 

It can be your relationship, your child(ren), your career, your health, your personal development.   

Hold gratitude for those areas and go back to them as often as you need – because balance! 

  

WHAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT 

What areas of your life need improvement? 

(Tip: If you need help figuring that out — look at these areas: relationships, health, career, personal development.) 

And try not to be too general by saying just “health”. Get specific

What in your health needs improvement — Food choice? Exercise? Condition management? 

Write down 1-3 things in each area that you want to improve (psst: if your health is stellar, own that! You don’t have to write down something just to do it). 



CREATE GOALS 

Now that you know where you want to improve, focus on the how (goals) and most importantly – let everything that didn’t work for you in the past–go. 



                That’s the beauty of a fresh start. 

  

If you want to cut down on sugar this year, make a plan to do that. 

If you want to start an exercise program, figure out what would work best for you (and not for your BFF who makes it look so easy). 

If you want to embark on a new career, start the search for what steps you’d need to do that and plan accordingly. 

If you want to create more self-care, book a facial and massage appointment. 

 

Don’t let the past get in your way. 

Allow your present and future to be what you want it to be.
